Green split peas are commonly sold into northern Europe for soups and sauces, but like yellow split peas, these are also packed into retail packs and sold into supermarkets.

It is important to ensure that when splitting green peas that the best peas are selected. If bleached peas are used they will give the appearance of yellow peas, which will then fail to meet the customer’s specification.

Polishing split peas is exceptionally important, as it improves the aesthetics of the product significantly and allows retail packs to be sealed more efficiently, as it reduces dust and flour which can affect the heat sealing of packaging.
